Preface

The Planning, Co-ordination and Standardization (PCS) section of Central Bureau of Statistics is pleased to publish this edition of district profiles in a compact disc (CD) as an attempt to disseminate comprehensive district level basic information in an electronic format. This edition is an outcome of collective effort of PCS section and all the Branch Statistical Offices throughout the country. This CD contains profiles of 33 districts covering socio-demographic, economic, political, geographical and other information of the corresponding districts.

The PCS section initiated a program for the preparation of profiles of all 75 districts in the fiscal year 062/63. The program is being launched in three fiscal years. In the first phase, 33 BSOs throughout the country produced 33 profiles of the districts where the offices are located. In the following year, 33 profiles of other districts were produced. In this fiscal year, BSOs would publish profiles of remaining nine districts mostly from Himal region.

The major purposes of the publication of this district profile are (i) to narrow down the prevailing data gap between the national and local level (ii) to pave the road for BSOs in order to establish themselves as a local data bank in a long run (iii) to upgrade the statistical capabilities and presentation skill of statistical facts of BSOs (iv) to assist the BSOs in executing statistical activities in a coordinated way in their districts. After publishing the district profiles in hardcopy and thereby experiencing the mounting demand of the profiles in the local level, the PCS come up with this edition of collection of 33 district profiles in an attempt to serve the data users a set of comprehensive district profiles in a more user-friendly and compact way. We hope that the present attempt would be helpful to the data users and we expect their invaluable feedbacks for the improvement of this work. We are aware that there is always sufficient place for the improvement of this effort.
